AirTags, a tiny tracking device meant for keeping track of items such as keys, wallets, and phones, have been being used as a tool for stalkers to follow people without their knowledge. To combat this, Apple plans on releasing a software update that will alert users when an AirTag is nearby through “a combination of sound, haptics and visual feedback.” While these are improvements, cybersecurity professionals say that Apple must go to further lengths to prevent abuse, and to extend these features to protect Android users as well.
